About the Photo Restoration
This picture was sent to me by my older sister. It is from around 1940 and has a terrible scratch with two big gouges.
Software and Techniques Used
I used Photoshop CS4 and used only the clone tool. I worked on a very magnified level, almost doing this pixel by pixel. The eye was very challenging and required a lot of work and redoing. I did the blue part first and then the white. This was especially hard because the pictures is hand-tinted and so the colors were blending into each other. I would do a little tiny bit and then check it against the results I wanted, redoing each little section of the eye as needed.
Advice
- Patience and constantly checking the results.
- Save frequently and in a form that can be reloaded.
- Walk away for a little while and go back with a new perspective.
