About the Digital Scrapbook Layout
Being the youngest of 5 boys, the term 'My Baby' is how I sometimes introduce this beautiful child of mine. But not any more - he has made it very clear to me that he is my baby no more. I guess it doesn't help when one of your brothers keeps rubbing in the fact that he is a whole 3 hours older!
Software and Techniques Used
I love using Photoshop Elements to alter photos. In this project I started out adjusting the look of the image of my son, giving it a rough, grungy look by applying filters and brushes. I then used my stash of digital scrapbooking materials to find papers, fonts and embellishments to complete the image. To further emphasise the grunge look, I used torn paper brushes and the dodge brush.
Advice
- If you don't have the right colour digi-paper to complement your image, don't be afraid to make it yourself.
- For a realistic image, ensure that all your drop shadows are using the same style (angle, depth, saturation, etc.).
- Don't be afraid to use simple shapes as embellishments. A circle filled with colour and highlighted with the right filter can be just what your layout needs.
What software do you use for digital scrapbooking? Why?
I love using Photoshop Elements to alter photos before printing, as well as create my digital layouts. I find that Elements is so easy to use and has so many 'hidden talents' that I am constantly learning something new.
What got you started in digital scrapbooking?
I've always loved playing with images and adding my own creative interpretation to them. I originally would just work on a photo and print it out to scrapbook, then I began creating my own embellishments using Photoshop Elements, and things just grew from there.
Where do your get your inspiration?
I am a very visual person. I am inspired by so many visual texts that surrounds us in our everyday life. Advertising layouts, nature, buildings and colour - they all inspire me to create. Oh, and then there are my 5 sons too!
Tell us about yourself (experience, web site, etc.)
I have always created in some way. I started scrapbooking about 4 years ago and was immediately hooked. Being mum to 5 boys meant that the speed of digi-scrapping was a natural progression. My blog addy is 6malesandme.blogspot.com.
