The GIMP Image Editor
GIMP Version You Are Reviewing (i.e. GIMP 2.6):
Gimp 2.6.10My Review
Today, I will be reviewing Gimp.
Gimp is very powerful and don't get me wrong on that. It just isn't as feature-full as I would wish. Some of the features that drive me towards Photoshop and away from Gimp are the layer effects. Photoshop has non-destructive layer effects that can be removed or tweaked at anytime during the image editing process. That's one of the reasons I like Photoshop better. Gimp though is a open-source program so you can suggest these features to the developers (I will) or if you are good at programming you can download the source code and add that yourself.
I run a website called Fancy Show Tech and as you can imagine (or not) I have to do a lot of work in Photoshop from making the post thumbnails to making banners and much, much more. I use Photoshop to do all of this because it has the layer effects feature which lets me apply a stroke effect to the layer easily and that's good for what I do. You just have to make sure not to add it too much ;) .
So, as you can imagine I use a photo manipulation program a lot.
Anyways, what I like about Gimp is first of all, it is open source. Open Source software is the best software because it is open for everyone to see. It also has a "different" interface than Photoshop and it is a good interface (but I do like the Photoshop interface better). Very easy to find what you are looking for in the Gimp interface.
