In the Calendar page of preferences, you might want to clear some of the holidays that don't pertain to where you live, such as the UK and Canadian holidays if you live in the US.

Under Events you can add custom events such as birthdays, anniversarys, trips, vacations, and so on. These only show up in the date view of the Photo Organizer, not on Calendar creations that you print. You can also add events directly from the date view, which is actually easier since you don't have to manually enter the dates.
