Adding Borders to Create a Frame

Oftentimes you will have created something really nice by applying a filter or by adding your own text and special touches but still feel that something is lacking. For instance, in my image I have used some of Paint Shop Pro Photo's advanced masking techniques to make the rough edges you see around the face. (You will learn more about the masking techniques later.) It looks okay the way it is, but I find it needing something. I am thinking a frame would be a really nice accent. Looking at the image, however, it appears that there is not enough extra space left around the image to create the frame without it getting lost in the mask around the image.

Paint Shop Pro Photo has a wonderful little command that will allow you to easily add a symmetrical border (or non-symmetrical if you so choose) around the image. It even lets you choose the color of the border. The Add Border command is located under the Image menu. (It is also an option located in the Learning Center under Text and Graphics )

Once selected, the Add Border dialog box will appear. Place a check in the Symmetrical box so that you will have the same size border on all sides. Enter a number in any one of the location boxes (top, bottom, right, left) To change the color of the border, click the color swatch located at the bottom left side of the dialog box. The Color Picker dialog box will appear. Select the new color and click OK. The Color Picker dialog box will close and you will be back to the Add Borders dialog box. Click OK to apply the border to your image.
