Guide Review - Fotoware FotoStation

FotoStation is a little different than most thumbnail browsers in that it does not let you browse images in a folder/tree hierarchy. Instead you create shortcuts to your image folders and these are available from a folder list along the side of the screen. You can index offline images and set up albums for groups of images without changing the actual locations. FotoStation offers a Drag & Drop view which allows you to easily drag files to other applications from a narrow bar of thumbnails that floats above other windows. You can switch from full screen to drag & drop view quickly in one click or keyboard shortcut.

In addition to browsing and viewing, FotoStation offers impressive image editing capabilities, but its real strength lies in its powerful text annotation abilities. You can add text annotations including title, date, caption, keywords, description, credit, special instructions, categories, location, and more. Text information can be added to individual images or batch copied to a series of images and is accessible from within Photoshop. The image editor provides basic to advanced darkroom editing functions such as set white/black points, adjust color and tone, dodge and burn, clone, sharpen, contrast, and noise removal. Another nice feature is the ability to export slide shows as a QuickTime movie. HTML and printing features are satisfactory.

Fotostation is an excellent choice, especially if you need to store a lot of text information with your images.
