Product Description:
Jasc After Shot is a photo acquisition, management, enhancement
and sharing program designed for digital camera owners.
After Shot simplifies the process of acquiring photos
from digital cameras by offering the capability to load
photos from your digital camera or PC card to your computer
with convenient one-click access.
Included with After Shot is an easy-to-use Quick
Tour tutorial that gives an excellent overview of
the product. Be sure to use it before starting to use
After Shot.
The Main After Shot View
The Main After Shot View has two sets of Menus. There
is the normal menu listing across the top of the window
and then there are vertical tabs on the left side. The
vertical tabs are used for working in the albums or with
the individual images. The main menu items control the
After Shot functions.
Getting from the Camera to the Computer
The menu item Camera is a great time saver. After Shot
will read the memory card directly and then its
a snap to move those files to the albums of your choice.
Before After Shot I had to copy those files onto my hard
drive, open them individually and decide where they belonged;
now its a quick one-step process.
Organize photographs
Uses the album metaphor to help organize pictures. One
can either create albums from already existing folders,
or move image files into newly created albums (which are
newly created folders on your hard drive. When you create
a new album you are literally copying the
image file into another folder, thus in most cases duplicating
your images. The new folder- complete with copies of all
the images is created within a folder named My
Documents/Jasc After Shot Images. It is possible that
you can keep adding copies of the same image in more than
one album.
After Shot allows you to have more than one album open
at a time. To keep albums open within After Shot you click
on the push pin symbol at the top left of the window view.
If you do not use the pushpin and have an album open,
the next album you open will replace the first open album
on your screen.

Moving and arranging photos
Moving files from one album to another is easy with drag
and drop. You can also rearrange files within an album
by dragging the image thumbnail from one position in the
album to another. If you wish to view a thumbnail, just
double click on it and you will get a larger picture on
your screen. To get back to the thumbnails, just click
on the Browse tab.
Correcting the Image
After Shot includes two methods of correcting
your image, plus a red eye correction. First there is
a Quick Fix. Unless the original need minor modifications,
more was needed than just the quick fix. The
better way is to work through the Correction menu item.
The Correction menu gives you several
options: Contrast/Brightness, Color, Hue/Saturation, Sharpness,
or Equalization. To use the correction menu you first
choose the image. When you select an image to edit, the
cursor becomes a zoom tool. Click with left mouse button
to zoom-in and with right mouse button to zoom out.

When you select the Corrections option
you get a new window putting the option adjustments of
the left and a copy of your image on the right. The image
includes an adjustable vertical line that shows what the
correction will accomplish on the right and the original
image on the left.

If you are not satisfied with the corrections
option in After Shot, you can also launch
your favorite image program by activating it in the Tools->Program
Launch Bar. The image-editing program will be launched
if you either click on the icon at the bottom of the window
or drag the image over the icon. This operation also takes
up more memory so be aware of the system resource when
you do this. Any image you save in the other program will
be added to the images in your album.
