Dave's Desk

My System

This is a brand new build except for the case. Windows 7, 64 bit. On the inside- Asus M4A79XTD EVO mobo with an AMD Athlon II X4 True Quad-Core 2.6 Ghz processor.

A GeForce 9500 GT graphics card. 2 drives, a WD 320gb and a Seagate 500gb, both SATA.

I have 4gb of Kingston Hyper X DDR3 1800 memory, I'm going to add more of the same. Also a Liteon 24X SATA DVD/CD writer with lightscribe.

Monitor is an Acer H233H 23 in widescreen. No dual yet.

An Antec 500w power supply cranks it all up.

I have some of my old drives in enclosures and use them as external drives.

Other Equipment

I use a Wacom Graphire (3 I think) for a tablet.

Lexmark all in 1 for printing, scanning. I use the USB cable to import photos from my cameras, both Canon, a Powershot A610 and a Rebel XSi DSLR.

I use a Logitech optical wired mouse and a wireless one on my laptop.

Just an old generic keyboard, my JBL speakers and my desk are 9 or 10 years old as is my chair.

And I have a pen and note pad... because I need them.

What I'd do differently

  • I would like/am going to:
  • Go wireless on my printer to get it off the desk.
  • Get a more comfortable chair.
  • Dual monitors, I have been looking at a Hannspree.
  • New keyboard although this one is very functional.
  • Women to fan me and feed me grapes.
  • Wireless router so I can move from a corner in the kitchen to a dedicated room.

Is graphics your occupation or a hobby?

Graphics is a hobby I got hooked on with Adobe Photo Deluxe 3.0 around 1999.

What type of graphic projects do you do?

Mostly photo editing and image manipulation. I make greeting cards and have done a couple of birth announcements and flyers for gratis.

What graphics software do you use?

Paint Shop Pro since ver.7, Adobe Photoshop Elements 7 and I have Photoshop CS2 on a disc around here somewhere. (hasn't been re-loaded yet). I have a load of plugins as well. Serif PagePlus. I've used GIMP, Paint.NET, and a few others.

Anything else? (inspiring music, your view, etc.)

Usually my desk isn't this tidy, I thought I had a 'before' photo of it. Most times it is organized chaos.

I have a nice view of mountains and downtown to my left, my neighbor's house to my right.

It's either dead quiet or rocks with guitars, psychedelia, dance, or soft n easy- I like them all.

Sue Chastain, Graphics Software Guide, says:

Nice, tidy setup you have there, Dave!
