About the Photo Restoration
This photo was discovered in a box of old photos and, as you can see, was pretty much destroyed by bugs, etc. It is too large for my scanner so I took a photo and downloaded it just to see if I could do anything with it. I do not know who the people are. This is a work in progress, but thought others might like to see what can be accomplished when large portions are missing. Hope to finish it soon.
Software and Techniques Used
Photoshop Elements 6 is the software. To replace the missing parts of the boys face, I flipped the portion I had and then cloned other parts and blended it together. Other missing parts were either cloned or reproduced or copied from other files I have of old photos from a similar era. I had to do a lot of prep work with tones and sharpening, etc. I am still working on the detail in this photo.
Advice
- Slow and patience come to mind.
- Don't be afraid to scrap everything and start over. I have done this many times and I think it is better than trying to save a restoration that is not going well.
- Not all techniques work the same with all photos.
