About the Digital Painting
This painting was done in June 2010 based on a photo by Clara Johnson with her permission.
Software and Techniques Used
Corel Painter 11 was used. I used the digital watercolour and wet watercolour brushes and some custom brushes created by myself or Skip Allen. The digital brushes were used on the base layer and the wet brushes on top for added colour and texture. I also used a French watercolour paper and wet the entire watercolour layer.
Advice
- My best advice is not to be afraid to experiment with creating brushes that make the mark you want to make and to paint as often as possible.
- Study other artists paintings and observe how they accomplish certain things and try and incorporate that into your art as you continue to develop your own unique style.
What software and hardware do you use for digital art?
Corel Painter 11, Wacom tablet and Intuos 4 pen.
When and how did you get started in digital art?
I had played around with CorelDraw and Photopaint a little bit many years ago and took it up again about five years ago. Since I had always wanted to paint and didn't have the space for traditional media I turned to Corel Painter 9 ...and haven't looked back since! I was hooked!
Where do your get your inspiration?
From places and photos that I feel a connection to or express something to me. My best paintings are ones that resonate with me on some emotional level. I am also inspired by other artists.
Tell us about yourself (experience, web site, etc.)
I have website/blog at JoanAHamilton.com that I show my art on and blog about my journey as an artist. I also do tutorials and demonstrations of my technique. In the past few years I have concentrated my efforts on mastering the digital watercolour and wet watercolour brushes.
