What are the best features of this app?
It makes it very simple and quick to get a nice looking layout.
How could this app be improved?
Would be nice to save projects to come back to if you want to work on it later. Facebook and Twitter upload would be good, as well as an option to add text or a background.
My Review
Diptic is appealing in its simplicity. In no time flat you can create a photo collage right on your iPhone, iPod touch, or iPad. The appeal of this app, for me, is that it gives a little extra punch to the low-quality photos you get from the iPod touch camera.
Diptic offers 24 layout designs which can utilize from 2 to 4 photos. The layouts are all rectangular--in other words, there is nothing like a random stack of photos.
Once you choose your layout, Diptic takes you to the Select Screen where you select your photos by tapping in one of the blank spaces of the layout. You can select a photo from your device, or take a photo with the built-in camera.
Next you are taken to the Transform screen where you can move, rotate and mirror the pictures in your layout. After that you go to the Effects screen to change the color and width of the borders, and modify the photo's brightness, contrast, and hue, if desired.
Lastly, you go the export screen where you can choose to email your layout, or save it to the photo album on your device. Diptic's output is 1024x1024 pixels.
There is nothing fancy here--but Dipic is a simple and quick way to do something a little more creative with photos taken on the iPhone or iPod touch.
I'd like to see the option to add some text and a background. I'm not sure I'd pay $1.99 for this app, but I do enjoy it.
