The GIMP Image Editor
GIMP Version You Are Reviewing (i.e. GIMP 2.6):
GIMP 2.6My Review
This review is from the general user point of view and not that of a "professional" user. I have used Adobe products extensively and found them to be useful even to laymen if a little time is spent to understand the programs.
This program does not work with "Tiff" or "Jpeg" images which happen to be two of the more common types of file formats that images are in.
That's ridiculous.
It seems that this program is directed at a sub group of users and for them it may be a great thing... The rest of us will never know.
At least it was free and I understand it is probably a work in progress so I don't want to bag on it's creators or supporters/users. It looks to be a great program that doesn't support some of the most common image formats which is frustrating. I hope it evolves to include Tiff and Jpeg or at least an add on sort of portal to bring these types of files in through an on-board conversion. Hopefully the creators on not trying to be obtuse like Apple.
Your Experience Level with Graphics Software:
IntermediateHelpful GIMP Resources
There are a few resources which seem useful but most refer to the GIMP help site which is limited in regards to how to get a Tiff file into the program. One must read through post after post following often broken links.
GIMP Alternatives
Not many alternatives, GIMP seems to offer tools far superior to other free software offerings. I'm just not a "Pimp my photo" kind of guy nor do I "bedazzle" anything if you know what I mean. I need a solid photo/image editing software that is available for a reasonable price or free ;).
