Changing the Color of the First Ring

Changing the Color of the First Ring
Now we need to change the color of two rings. We're going to make one ring bronze and the other silver. Select the ring on the left. Press the Ctrl key and watch the selection cursor change to an arrow going through a circle. (This special mode lets you select inside a group of objects, like a blend.)

While holding the Ctrl key, click on the outermost edge of the left gold ring to select just the gold ellipse with the thick border. You may have to click a few times to get it. Look in the status bar for a clue. It will say "1 ellipse (inside)" when you have the right object selected, and the current line and fill color indicator should show no fill and a gold outline. When you have it selected, right click on the 30% black color swatch in the color bar.
