Whatever Happened To... Discontinued and Abandoned Graphics Software

This is an archive of whatever history and information I could gather about some of the discontinued graphics software programs I'm often asked about. These titles include discontinued software, abandonware, and titles that have changed ownership many times over the years.

This is an ongoing project and I could use your help keeping the information up to date. If you know of a product that should be included here, please post what you know about it in the graphics software forum.
Adobe Photoshop Album
Photoshop Album is a product from Adobe Systems, Inc. which was desiged for home digital camera users and amateur photographers on the Windows platform.
Alien Skin Eye Candy 4000
In late 2004, Alien Skin announced plans to split the popular Eye Candy Collection into three separate collections: Eye Candy 5: Textures, Eye Candy 5: Nature, and Eye Candy 5: Impact. With the release of the three the new Eye Candy collections, Eye Candy 4000 has been discontinued.

Adobe LiveMotion and ImageStyler
ImageStyler was a Web graphics creation tool from Adobe Systems. In January 2000, Adobe discontinued ImageStyler and replaced it with a new Web graphics and animation product, LiveMotion, which was also discontinued in 2003.
Adobe PhotoDeluxe Replaced by Photoshop Elements
Adobe has discontinued PhotoDeluxe, but users can still find a few tutorials, tips and other PhotoDeluxe resources archived here. PhotoDeluxe users should consider upgrading to Adobe Photoshop Elements (link goes to Photoshop Elements Review).
Art Dabbler

Bryce

Corel Acquires Jasc Software
October 14, 2004 - Corel Corporation today acquired Jasc Software, Inc., the award-winning developer of the Paint Shop family of digital-photography and image- editing software.
CorelDream 3D
Dream 3D was a 3D modeling and rendering program that was bundled with the CorelDRAW 8 Graphics Suite for Windows. It has since been discontinued.
CorelXARA
Xara is a vector drawing program that was formerly marketed and distributed by Corel as CorelXARA 2. In February of 1999, Corel released the rights back to the original software developer, Xara, who is still producing the software under the title Xara X.
Deneba artWorks, Deneba UltraPaint, and Deneba Canvas

Metacreations Headline Studio has been discontinued.
Inklination Xhatch and FineArt 3D
In August of 2000, Inklination announced that they were discontinuing development and distribution of Xhatch and FineArt 3D.
Jasc After Shot
Jasc After Shot was renamed to Jasc Paint Shop Photo Album. In 2004 Jasc Software was acquired by Corel Corporation, and the product continues to be developed and sold.
Jasc Illuminatus and Ornamatica
Illuminatus and Ornamatica are two programs that wee marketed by Jasc for a short time.
Kai's Photo Soap

Kai's Power Show
Kai's Power Show is a slide show and presentation tool that was formerly published by MetaCreations. In 1999, Kai's Power Show was acquired by ScanSoft, Inc.

Microsoft Image Composer and PhotoDraw 2000
Microsoft acquired Image Composer and included it with the FrontPage Web authoring software for several years. It was later replaced by PhotoDraw 2000, until Microsoft discontinued that, too.
Microsoft Liquid Motion
Microsoft's Web graphics and animation tool, Liquid Motion, was discontinued in 2000.
Midnight Blue SuperJPG - Discontinued
An overview and summary of features for SuperJPG, an inexpensive thumbnail image browser and viewer with excellent batch printing features. Now discontinued.
PageMaker
PageMaker is a page layout application that was originally published by Aldus. It was later acquired by Adobe Systems, but has since been replaced by InDesign.
Picasa Digital Photo Software
Picasa digital photo management software, formerly from Lifescape Solutions, was acquired by Google in July of 2004 and is now a free download.
Picture Publisher

Poser
Poser is a 3D figure modeling application that was formerly published by MetaCreations. Poser was eventually acquired by egi,sys AG, the parent company of Curious Labs, Inc. and is still being developed today.
Rendersoft CamStudio (Win) - Discontinued
CamStudio is a simple, straightforward program to record screen activity to AVI or SWF format. And you can't beat the price; it's free.
SlowView Image Viewer - Discontinued
A summary of SlowView, a fast and free image viewer and thumbnail browser. Now discontinued.
Ultimatte KnockOut
KnockOut is a stand-alone masking program that was originally developed by Ultimatte for the Macintosh platform. In 1999, it was acquired by Corel and is still available today.
