Xara Xtreme Live Effects

Xara Xtreme Live Effects

With Live Effects you can edit the object's shape and the plug-in effect is automatically updated.

In most graphics software, if you apply a plug-in effect and then decide to change the object, you'd have to re-do the plug-in effect. If you've used Photoshop, you know that vector content and text usually has to be converted to pixels before you can use plug-in effects on it. Not so with Xara Xtreme! With Live Effects you can edit the object's shape and the plug-in effect is automatically updated.

In the examples show here, I started with two identical 6-pointed star shapes and applied the Chrome Liquid Metal effect from Alien Skin Eye Candy: Impact. For the second star I reduced the number of points to 5 and rotated it. The effect was immediately updated. Next I duplicated that star for the third one. I added curvature to the star, and was also able to edit the Chrome effect to reduce the amount of bevel. So not only can you edit the shape, you can also edit the effect without starting over from scratch. Live effects also work with text so you can edit your text without re-applying the plugin effect.

Xtreme comes with several plug-ins, and Live Effects is compatible with many newer 'scriptable' plug-ins such as those from Alien Skin, AV Bros., and others. You can find a list of compatible plugins on the Xara site. I found it worked with many of the plugins I already had.
