Batch Rename Picture Files: Tools & Tips

Batch renamers are useful for adding more descriptive names to files such as photos from a digital camera which are often automatically named using a cryptic file naming convention. Most of these utilities allow you to rename a series of files based on your own descriptive text or file information such as the date and time. Some are free, and most will offer a free trial period so you can try the software before you buy. Although many graphics software programs offer built-in file renaming commands, these dedicated tools usually offer more flexibility and features. I've also included instructions for renaming a series of images in many popular graphics programs.
