Red eye is a common problem that affects photographs of people taken in low light with on-camera flash. It causes the pupils to shine a bright red as a result of the flash light reflecting off the blood vessels in the back of the eye.
Pixel-based image editors have long given photographers the power to correct this problem, but this has become even easier now as more and more image editors contain specific tools for this task. In this tutorial I'll show you how to use the Red Eye Tool in PhotoPlus SE to eliminate the problem.
1. Select the Red Eye Tool
The first step is to select the Red Eye Tool from the Tools toolbar to the left. If you can't see the Red Eye Tool, click on the 'flip out' arrow to the right of the tool below the Picture Brush Tool and then select the Red Eye Tool.
2. Use the Red Eye Tool
For the next step you will find it easier if you zoom in a little so that you can see the eyes clearly. Do this by going to View > Zoom In a few times as necessary. Now draw a circular marquee around each eye, one by one, and the Red Eye Tool will automatically adjust the image to remove the red eye.
3. Red Eye is Gone
PhotoPlus SE's Red Eye Tool is extremely easy to use, with absolutely no user selectable options. For pictures containing groups of people, there is no option for correcting all of the eyes simultaneously, as some other image editors can, but the process is so simple it takes next to no time to remove red eye from multiple subjects.
