The Control Bar

Below the browser is the Control Bar. From left to right, the items on the control bar are:

  • Arrange menu - Changes sorting to date (newest first), date (oldest first), import batch, or folder location.

  • Details - Unchecked will show only thumbnails in the photo browser. When the box is checked, the browser shows the photo date, tag icons, and (if enabled in preferences) the file name. The shortcut is Ctrl-D.

  • Rotate Left/Right buttons - For photos taken in portrait mode, these buttons will rotate your photo left or right. The buttons are dimmed if you have a video clip selected. Note: If your camera has an internal sensor for camera rotation, you may never need to use the rotate buttons. However, even if your camera detects rotation, some other programs (such as Windows Picture Viewer) can cause the embedded rotation information to be misread or handled improperly.

  • Show or hide properties - toggles the properties palette where you can see details about your photos such as size, location on disk, tags, and more. The Properties palette can be docked with the organize bin, or it can float in its own window by unchecking "Dock Properties in Organize Bin" from the Window menu. The Properties button is a toggle and has the shortcut Alt-Enter.

  • Photo Review - Goes to a full screen view of the selected photo(s). If multiple photos are selected you can watch a slide show of the photos. The shortcut is F11. More on Photo Review in an upcoming lesson.
