If you want to see a large view of a single photo, just double click its thumbnail in the photo browser. Double click again to go back to the thumbnail view exactly where you were.

In single photo view, even more details are shown for the photo--you can see the full date and time, the names of tags are shown instead of just icons, and you have a place to type a caption and add an audio caption.
