If you've just imported new photos, the Find bar (below the timeline) will show a "Review Photos" button. You can also invoke a photo review at any time using the F11 shortcut, by pressing the Photo Review button in the control bar, or by going to View > Photo Review. If no photos are selected, Photo Review will display all the photos shown in the photo browser.
The first time you invoke Photo Review, the Photo Review Presentation Options dialog is displayed.
Screen Shot of Photo Review Options
Background Music - Choose a music file to play while reviewing your photos. Press browse to import a new MP3, WAV, or WMA file.
Play Audio Captions - If a photo has an audio caption, check this box to have it play.
Page Duration - The time each photo is displayed in a slide show. You can manually enter any number if you don't like the menu options of 2, 4 or 10 seconds.
Include Captions - Shows your caption below the photo.
Allow photos to resize - This only affects photos that are smaller than your screen. It will cause them to fill the screen and appear pixelated. Photos that are larger than the screen will be sized to fit in your screen. I prefer this option disabled at all times.
Allow videos to resize - Same as above, but for videos.
Repeat slide show - Causes the slide show to loop, starting over again at the beginning when the last photo in the show has been shown.
Show this dialog each time Photo Review is entered - If you generally use the same setting most of the time, you can uncheck this box. You'll still be able to adjust the options from within Photo Review.
Once you're in Photo Review mode, the first photo in the selection will be displayed filling the screen. At the top of the screen is the photo review toolbar and to the left is filmstrip showing thumbnails of all the photos in the selection. To navigate photo review, you can use the arrow keys on the keyboard to advance each photo, click a thumbnail in the filmstrip, or use the forward and back buttons in the toolbar. The play button on the toolbar will cause the photos to advance automatically like a slide show.
When you want to exit Photo Review, press the ESC key on your keyboard.
If you want more room to display the photo, you can collapse the filmstrip by clicking the tiny arrow on the left border.
You can move the toolbar by clicking the blank area on the far left. However, it will always return to its default location the next time you enter photo review. The small arrow on the far right collapses the toolbar to only show the slide show controls.
There is also an undocumented "Special UI Mode" to completely hide the filmstrip and have the toolbar hidden until you move the mouse. See my tip: How to Hide the Toolbar and Filmstrip in Photo Review
You might be surprised at just how much you can do from the photo review toolbar. Continue on to explore the photo review toolbar.
