Organize your Photo Collection in Elements Photo Organizer
Moving Files

By , About.com Guide

You can move files two ways within the organizer.

Move from the File Menu
Select the files you wish to move, and choose File > Move. You'll get a dialog box with a thumbnail list of the files selected, and a browse button for you to choose a folder. if you made a mistake when selecting files, you can use the "Add" button below the thubnails to include more photos, or you can select from the thumbnail list and click the trash button to remove items. When you're sure of your selection, click the "Browse..." button and navigate to the folder you want to move the items to. If you need a new folder, you can create one using the "Make new folder" button at the bottom of the browser dialog. When you have selected a folder, click OK and Elements will move the photos.

This method of moving is best when you need to move files from multiple locations, or when you need to make a new folder to move the files into.

If you need to move multiple files from one folder to another existing folder, you can do it by drag and drop in the Folder Arrangement view.

Drag & Drop Move from the Folder Tree
Switch the Arrange menu to folder location. A folder tree will appear along the left side of the screen. Only folders containg cataloged photos will appear in this list. In other words, Organizer will not show you the folders containing files that are not indexed in your catalog, although they are still there on your computer. Navigate to the folder containing photos you want to move. Select all the photos you want to move. Drag and drop them onto another folder in the folder tree. The browse for folder dialog will still appear, giving you a chance to verify your folder selection, or create a new folder if you need to. Click OK to follow through with the move, or cancel to back out.

Note: Photoshop Elements will only move the "top" photo of a version set or stack. If you want to keep all photos from a version set or stack together, you will have to move them outside of Elements and then use the File > Reconnect > All Missing Files command to reconnect them in your catalog. Elements will search for the moved photos and correct its links in the catalog.
