Conclusion
Since its initial release, I have been enthusiastic about Photoshop Elements, but I am quite disappointed with this version. While there are a few niceties here, there's nothing I'd consider revolutionary. Most of what's new could already be done with Photoshop Elements, albeit with a bit more effort. I feel that a lot of what is good is overshadowed by the over-aggressive push for Photoshop.com membership. As far as I can tell, little has been done to improve the performance issues that have plagued this program for several years. Despite reviewing this version on a faster system, opening the programs and switching between editing modes is still quite slow, and I encountered a few error messages and program crashes during my review time.
Of course, for those new to Photoshop Elements, or those coming from a very old version--it's a good program, and all that former goodness is still there. However, if you are considering an upgrade from version 5 or 6, you are probably better off passing on this one, unless the Photoshop.com integration appeals to you. I'm left with the feeling that this upgrade was released more for the shareholders than the customers.
