Is Photoshop Elements 7 worth your upgrade dollars? Here's a summary of the new features to help you decide.

Photoshop.com Integration for Online Backup and Sharing

Photoshop.com integration seems to be the primary focus of the Photoshop Elements 7 upgrade. Users can opt for a free Basic membership with 2 GB or storage for backing up and sharing your photo and video clips. Backup synchronization happens automatically in the background, and whatever photos you choose to backup or share can be access from any computer or mobile device where you have online access.

For an annual fee of $50, customers can upgrade to a Plus membership which will give them 20 GB of storage as well as access to downloadable premium content such as seasonal artwork, templates, and tutorials. Higher storage levels of 20 GB, 40 GB, and 100 GB are also available for Plus and Basic members. Basic members who aren't interested in the premium content can add storage for a lower price.

Another part of the Photoshop.com integration is the inspiration pods, which are small promos for tutorials, which when clicked, launch the inspiration browser where you can peruse a collection of free and premium tutorials.

Customers who prefer to stick with the free Basic membership can expect to see a lot of subtle and not-so-subtle promotional buttons and blurbs for Plus membership. For example, take a look at what percentage of the welcome screen is devoted to a Plus membership advertisement in the screen shot here. Also, premium content is not identified in the main tutorial index of the inspiration browser, and the tutorial promos that fly in on the bottom right edge of the screen can be a distraction.

I feel the push for Plus membership is too aggressive and is sure to annoy those customers who don't wish to upgrade their membership.
