Next to the resample check box, you'll see the menu where you can choose the interpolation method Photoshop uses to create new pixels when resampling.
  • Nearest Neighbor does not anti-alias at all and is very fast, but because it does not blend the pixels, it results in a jagged appearance.
  • Bilinear is faster but not as accurate as Bicubic.
  • Bicubic is the default and gives you the better results than Nearest Neighbor or Bilinear.
  • Bicubic Smoother should give you better results when increasing image size.
  • Bicubic Sharper should give better results when reducing image size. Photoshop help warns that this method may produce an over-sharpened image, and to fall back to standard Bicubic if this occurs.
More Info: Bicubic Smoother and Bicubic Sharper The "Scale Styles" button only comes into play if you have used styles and effects in your image, such as shadows, bevels, and glow effects. With the button checked, your effects will scale proportionally with the image when it is resized. We'll learn more about layer style effects in a future lesson, but for the most part, you will want to leave this option checked.

Next we're going to experiment with the image size command so you can get comfortable working with it. Visit the resizing practice exercises, then come back here to continue the lesson with the Canvas Size command.
