First off, Photoshop Elements 6 is sporting a new "streamlined" user interface with a dark background that is intended to bring more focus to your photos. The new tab-based layout also reduces clutter. Here you can see the Organizer with its tabs for Organize, Fix, Create, and Share. The Display button at the top lets you switch to date view, import batch, map view, full screen, and compare modes. The Editor button lets you jump right into the quick fix, Full edit, or guided mode of the Editor application.

Personally, I find reversed text harder to read and would have preferred that the new dark background be an adjustable option rather than a fixed, drastic change as it is now.

Adobe says they have increased the performance for tasks such as importing photos, searching, and tagging, but I found the performance issues that have plagued Photoshop Elements for many versions are still around. Switching between applications and modes frequently results in a wait of several second. The Organizer is also shared now between Photoshop Elements and Premiere Elements, making it easier to create project utilizing photos and videos together.
