This is a pretty quick and easy tutorial to show you how to remove red eye from a photo using Pixelmator. Pixelmator is an attractive and reasonably priced image editor designed for use on Apple Macs running OS X. While it offers its users a broad range of tools, unlike some image editors it doesn't include a dedicated tool to remove red eye. However, as you'll see, it is a problem that is very easy to deal with using Pixelmator's available tools.
Red eye is a problem that is particularly common in snaps taken with point and shoot compact cameras. It occurs when the camera's flash fires and illuminates the retina of the eyes of the subjects, the red color being caused by light reflecting from the blood vessels in the back of the eye. Professional photographers avoid the issue by using a flash that is mounted further away from the lens, but this isn't an option for owners of compact cameras with built-in flashes.
In the following steps, I'll show you how you can remove red eye from a photo using Pixelmator and in the process you'll use the Magic Wand Select tool and the Hue and Saturation controls.
