Toy cameras, such as those produced by Lomo, are enjoying popularity at the moment and here I'll show you how to make a fake Lomo photo in Pixelmator. The growth in interest in toy cameras may be because they can produce quite random results which is in direct contrast to the consistently excellent results that modern digital cameras are now able to produce.
One of the most common features of Lomo camera photos are slightly unnatural color shifts, where colors within the photo don't look like they would in real life. The lenses can also be rather imperfect, causing some parts of the image to look a little soft or for the corners to be darkened by vignetting. Also, Lomo cameras all use traditional photographic film, so another aspect that helps to typify these images is film grain and we can use Pixelmator to create this, along with some other imperfections, while making a fake Lomo photo,
If you're a new user of Pixelmator, while learning how to make a fake Lomo photo, you'll also learn a bit about using layers, how the Curves adjustment tool works and using filters to change the appearance of a photo.
If you've not got a copy of Pixelmator, you can find out a bit more about it and whether it might be a suitable image editor for use on your Apple Mac in this introduction to Pixelmator.
