History Options

The screen shot shows you the History options which you can access from the history palette's menu.

Before we move on, I do want to point out some important things you should know about the history palette and Snapshots:
  • History and snapshots are not saved with an image. Closing and reopening an image will clear all history states and snapshots.

  • Reverting to a previous state and then editing your image eliminates all history states that had come after it.

  • Deleting a state deletes everything after it, unless the non-linear option is selected. (See "history options" in Help Center for info on non-linear history.)

  • Ctrl-Alt-Z (Command-Option-Z on Mac) moves backward through the history states. (Multiple Undo)

  • Ctrl-Shift-Z (Command-Shift-Z on Mac) moves forward through the history states. (Multiple Redo)

There's more I could tell you about the History palette, but it is all explained very well in Adobe Help Center. Go to Photoshop Help (F1) > Contents > Work Area > Recovery and Undo to learn more. We'll cover more about the History palette as required in future lessons.
