Creating Planes in the Vanishing Point Tool

Vanishing Point Tool in Photoshop CS2

Using the Vanishing Point Tool in Photoshop CS2

The first thing you do in the Vanishing Points dialog is use the Create Plane Tool to define the perspective planes in the image. You do this simply by clicking on four points in the image to define a grid. Photoshop will show your grid in blue if it's in correct perspective — if you see a yellow or red outline, you will know your perspective plane is not quite right.

After you've got you perspective grid laid out, you can use a the marquee tool, clone tool, or paintbrush, to edit the image while maintaining consistent perspective throughout the image. In the screen shot above, I am using the marquee tool to select a part of the railing farther down from the man, then I drag that selection over to the man, and drop it directly on him.
