Save and Optimize the Animation

optimization wizard
Animated files can get very large and should be optimized for faster load times! We'll use the Optimization Wizard to save and optimize at the same time!

Select the Save button and a dialog box will appear to give your file a name (GIF file type). After you name the file and select Save, the Gif Optimizer dialog box should appear.

Move slider to top for "better image quality" or, if your image is very large, lower the slider to sacrifice some image quality for a smaller file size.

On this same page of the dialog box, select the Customize button and review all settings under the 3 tabs to customize optimization settings.

Many of the customizing choices are either personal preference or will vary depending on the particular image that is being optimized. You will need to make your own choices. Here are a few tips:

Colors tab: The GIF format supports 256 colors (it says 255, 1 is reserved by program). If image actually has fewer colors, enter that number here (for smaller filesize).

Optimizations tab: In most cases all boxes should be checked except the last one, which is not supported by all browsers.

Dithering is a technique for simulating a color by mingling pixels of other colors. Try different settings for different images. Note how it effects file size!

When done customizing, select OK. You will be shown a small preview of animation, final file size and estimated load times. Keep selecting Next until you reach Finish.

Your animated sig tag is ready to use! Enjoy!
