Creating the Diagonal Checks Pattern

Materials Palette

After you've made your choices in the materials palette, click OK!

PATTERN #2

Open a 2nd image with the same settings as earlier except:
  • width: 200
  • height: 200
  • color of background: white

Create a new raster layer by clicking on the Raster Layer icon.
Enter the following into dialog box and click OK

  • Name: CHEX
  • Blend mode: Normal
  • Opacity: 100
  • 'Layer is visible' should be checked

Flood fill the CHEX layer with the pattern we made in STEP 1.
    1. Click on the large color swatch of the Materials Palette and select the Pattern tab in the dialog box OR click on the Pattern icon below the large color swatch on the color palette.
    2. Click on the tiny down arrow next to the pattern window and scroll thru the pattern choices until you see the pattern #1. It is probably the first one in top row. Keep the scale at 100 but change the angle to 45.
A preview of the new pattern should appear in the little box on the right titled CURRENT.

Optional Texture: We can also add a little texture to this pattern. On my 'real' cookbook, the cover has sort of a linen texture. Check the Texture box at the upper right of the Material dialog box. Then click on the tiny down arrow next to the texture window to scroll thru the available textures and make your selection. I didn't see a linen texture among the textures included with PSP 8, so I selected 'crisscross', which looked a little like linen to me when I increased the scale to 200%. (You can add more textures to this group....but that's another tutorial!)
