Adjusting Opacity of the Layers

The Basic Gingham Pattern

After following the instructions below, you should have the basic gingham pattern shown here.

On the Layer Palette, reduce the opacity of the 2nd layer to 50%. This can also be done in more than one way:
1. To the right of the layer button is the Opacity setting, drag the slider to 50… or
2. Double-click the layer name to display the Layer Properties dialog box, enter 50 in the Opacity box, and click OK.

Your final image should have 1 red, 1 white, and 2 muted red squares as shown above.

We will use Pattern #1 to fill our next image. You can give it a name and save it if you want to use it again or you can toss it away after we're done creating pattern #2. PSP allows you to use any open image as a fill pattern, so for now, keep the image open and minimized in your workspace.

Important: Patterns are available for greyscale and 16 million color images only. If, at any time, you find some tools are greyed out....increase the color depth of your image to 16 million. Image > Increase Color Depth.
