Other Fun Gradient Uses & Homework
Corel Paint Shop Pro Photo Basics - Lesson 3

By , About.com Guide

A couple of the simplest things to make with gradients are balloons or eggs. There are many more uses as well, which you will see in the next lesson when we start using the gradients to improve our family photographs. For now, though, I want to get you started on creating the balloons (or eggs, your choice).

Open a new image: RGB, white background, 400 x 400. Select the Selection tool from the toolbar. In the Options palette set the Selection Type to Ellipse. Use the settings shown here as a guide for setting the remaining options.

Drag out the Ellipse shape on your canvas and then use the Flood Fill tool to fill the selection with the gradient of your choice. You may use any of the existing gradients or create a new one of your own. If you are not comfortable creating a new one on your own, don't worry too much. Lesson 4 will cover even more fun with gradients as well as some more intense gradient editing-creating.

Lesson 3 Homework Assignments:

  • Select Red/Yellow colors with the Eyedropper tool.
  • Using Color Replacer tool, change the Red Square to same yellow as triangle
  • Using one of your own images, replace one or more colors. Please share it with us in the interactive classroom.
  • Using the Clone Brush tool, fix the blemishes on the skin in the picture provided.
  • Using the Clone Brush tool, remove blemishes or replace a patterned area of one of your own images. Try using the Aligned and Non-Aligned mode to see which works the best for you.
  • Review the Flood Fill options palette.
  • Create a square preset size button by using the Flood Fill tool.
  • Add simple text to your button using the Text tool.
  • Save and optimize your button using the methods you used in Lessons 1 and 2.
  • Review the Gradients section.
  • Create the gradient used in the optical illusion. Share it with someone and then tell us what you saw (or didn't see).
  • Using gradients, create a set of different colored balloons or a basket of eggs.
  • Create a linear gradient button.
