Here's an example of the type of image you will learn to create with this tutorial.
For this tutorial, you'll work with a terrific technique using a pencil sketch to build in texture and color. I have provided an image to work with, but you are free to use your personal image as well. If using your personal image, try to find one that does not include an abundance of detail--keep it simple. The end effect (shown here) is very painterly with a watercolor feel.

The brush palette is very simple. You will use a Pencil variant of your choice and two of the Tinting brushes. Tinting brush variants let you apply effects to photos or existing artwork. In this case, we will develop a lovely watercolor effect with the Grainy Glazing Round 15 and the Soft Grainy Round from the Tinting Brush Category. Finally, to reveal some lost detail, the Soft Cloner Brush from the Cloners Brush category. Experiment with the Tinting Brushes to find the right Opacity settings and Size settings. When using the Soft Cloner, less is best; revealing too much detail will take away from the painterly quality you are working to achieve.
