3D Easter Eggs in Illustrator
Choosing the 3D Filter

By , About.com Guide

The 3D filter is applied as an effect so it will be fully editible and reversible later, even after you have saved and closed the file. An effect only affects the appearance of an object without affecting the true shape of the object, so it can be removed or altered at any time using the Appearance palette. With your egg path selected, go to Effect > 3D > Revolve. There are actually three 3D Filter choices. 3D Extrude and Bevel is a choice for flat objects you want to make into shaded 3D objects, like turning a rectangle into a book or DVD case. Without a fill, the object will be hollow. Revolve creates a three-dimensional object that revolves around the original path, and creates realistic 3D objects from the paths, complete with shading. Rotate rotates the two-dimensional object you draw in 3D space. You can probably guess which one you'll will need to choose to make the egg shape: 3D Revolve.
