In this simple tutorial, I'll show you how to produce an Etsy store banner in GIMP. In case you're one of the few who haven't heard of Etsy.com, this is an online market place dedicated to helping all sorts of makers to sell their hand made goods online.

The website has grown to be hugely popular across the world and there are now many crafts people and artisan makers selling their wares through their own Etsy stores. If you're one of these people, in this tutorial I'm going to show you how to produce an Etsy store banner in GIMP. This will be a very basic design and the aim is to make you confident with the mechanics of producing a banner to the correct size and then saving it ready to upload it to your Etsy store.

I'm not going to try and show you how to design the greatest looking banner, but I'm guessing that you've already got a reasonable eye for aesthetics. In fact, I fully expect you to create something much more attractive than my banner for Pullen's Pearl Necklaces, though the tools and techniques that you use will be much the same.

If you don't already have a copy of GIMP, you can download it for free from GIMP's website, with versions for Windows, OS X and Linux being available. Once you've got a working version of GIMP installed on your PC, you can press on and see how to produce an Etsy store banner.
