Shareware is usually offered at much lower prices than similar software that is offered through retail channels. One example of this is the wildly popular Paint Shop Pro, which can be purchased for as little as $50 with some creative shopping ($109 through Jasc, the software manufacturer). Compare this to a steep $250 to $600 for some of the more mainstream image editors like Corel Painter and Adobe Photoshop, and the savings is considerable. Although Paint Shop Pro is now considered commercial software, it originated as shareware. You can find graphics shareware through many software libraries online such as Download.com, Shareware.com, and VersionTracker. Or better yet, browse the categories of software on this site and About's Shareware/Freeware site. I link generously to shareware programs in the graphics software categories on this site. If the money-saving options presented here still don't meet your needs, you can always use About's price comparision site to search for the best price among thousands of online retailers. If you have another source for graphics software bargains, or if you'd like to share your own software bargain buying experience, be sure to post in the discussion forum.
