Can Academic Software be Upgraded?

By Sue Chastain, About.com

Question: Can Academic Software be Upgraded?
Mariakellehe writes: "I was told that Academic software is not able to be upgraded... if you can't upgrade it, is it really a bargain?"
Answer: I doubt that's true. Software publishers offer academic pricing in order to get students started with their software, with the assumption that they'll continue to upgrade it after they begin working in the real world. It's possible there are some rare exceptions to this. The software End User License Agreement (EULA) should tell you for sure.
