Generate a List of Files with XnView

By Sue Chastain, About.com

There's no simple way to generate a list of files within a directory under Windows without using DOS commands. However, if you have the free XnView image viewing software, you can easily generate a list of files.
Difficulty: Easy
Time Required: 2 minutes
Here's How:
  1. Open XnView.

  2. If the folder tree is not visible, go to View > Folder Tree.

  3. In the folder tree, navigate to the folder for which you want a file list.

  4. Press Ctrl-A to select all items.

  5. Go to the Create menu and choose "File Listing..." (or press Shift-L on your keyboard).

  6. The "Generate File listing" dialog box will appear where you can choose which file information you want included in the list.

  7. Click OK and the file list will open in your default text editor.

Tips:
  1. You can choose whether to include subfolders from the "Generate File listing" dialog box.

  2. You can choose whether to list file sizes as bytes, KB, MB, or GB from the "Generate File listing" dialog box.

  3. You can apply custom formatting to date and time properties by clicking the "Insert >>" button in the "Generate File listing" dialog box.
