Miscellaneous Enhancements
Dateline: 09/28/99
To wrap up the version 5.0 portion of this ongoing review, there are just a few more enhancements in this version I have not yet discussed. I'll touch on these below, and then move on to the new features in version 5.5.
Expanded Scratch Space Support
Now you can aloocate up to four different disk drives to Photoshop for scratch
space, increasing the total scratch space to a maximum of 200 GB.
Interface Improvements
Photoshop has improved the functionality of the Curves dialog box. The Path
tools have also been updated, making them more consistent with the tools in
Adobe Illustrator.
More Live Previews
Live previews have been added to the Color Settings, Duotone, and Indexed color
dialog boxes, allowing you to see the results of any changes before the changes
are applied.
Other Improvements
- Improved importing of any PDF file
- Improved support for importing Illustrator and generic EPS files
- New Save As options allow you to exclude unwanted options to reduce image size
- EPS export now supports DCS 2.0 format for color separations
- Photoshop can now print to PostScript Level 3 printers.
Coming up next I'll tell you about my very favorite feature in Photoshop 5.5... the Save for Web command.
