Color Enhancements

Dateline: 09/24/99

Photoshop 5.0 includes some new color enhancements that should make working with color and reproducing accurate color easier. Below is a brief run-down of these color improvements:

Improved Color Management
ICC profile support and color management modules make it easier for Photoshop users to achieve consistent color across various platforms, monitors, and printers.

Expanded Support for 16-bit Color
Support for 16-bit color channels has been expanded so that it now works for a wider selection of tools and commands.

Color Samplers
New color samplers allow you to monitor the color in up to four different areas of your image. Via the info palette, these samplers give you a reading of the before and after results of any color adjustments you make to your image and can be saved with each image.

Spot Color
Spot color enhancements mean that Photoshop images can now be separated into spot color plates using new spot channels.

Enhanced Hue/Saturation
The Hue/Saturation dialog box has been updated with new controls for more precise and targeted color range adjustments of hue, saturation, and lightness.

Channel Mixer
The new Channel Mixer command lets you mix color channels. This is useful for making creative color adjustments, creating high-quality grayscale images, sepia tones, and other tints, for converting between alternative color spaces, and for swaping or duplicating channels.
