New: Photoshop 7.0 is now available!

Enhanced Text Features
There are so many new text features, they really deserve an article all to themselves, but for now, here's the highlights... Most importantly, there's no more text entry dialog box! Now you can enter text directly on your Photoshop document.

The Text Tool Options Bar
The Text Tool Options Bar - The first set of buttons let you choose type layer or selection. The next pair of buttons control the horizontal or vertical orientation of the text. Of course, the next three menus are for setting the font, style and size. Anti-aliasing controls include crisp, strong, smooth, and none. The next three buttons are for text alignment. Then there's text color and the text warp button.

There are two new palettes for specifying text options.
The Character Palette
The Character Palette lets you specify font and size, plus kerning, leading, tracking, scale, baseline shift, and color... not just for the text layer, but for individual characters, if desired.
The Paragraph Palette
The Paragraph Palette offers options for adjusting the alignment, justification, indentation, paragraph spacing, and hyphenation.

Text can be resized, rotated, scaled, skewed, and distorted and always remains crisp and editable. Text can also be converted to vector shapes or work paths.

Warp Text dialogIn addition, there's 15 preset warp shapes that can be applied to create text that curves, bulges, arcs, twists, and more. The Warp Text dialog lets you control the amount of bend as well as horizontal and vertical distortion. Several of the text warp styles are shown below.
