Creating Gradient Ramps in PhotoImpact 4.2

Pallette RampOne of my favorite features of PhotoImpact 4.2 is the ability to use and create gradients with multiple colors. This is something that can't be done in Paint Shop Pro without using a plug in. This tutorial will walk you through the very easy steps of making your own color combinations for the Pallette Ramp.

First, to access the Pallette Ramp Editor, choose the fill tool with any of the gradient settings. (See Fun with Gradients Tutorial if you don't know what the fill tool is, or how to choose a gradient). Select "multiple color" as the fill choice.

Choose Multiple Color

Click on the "Fill Colors" box that should now be a multiple color gradient, instead of the two colors above. This will open the Pallette Ramp Editor, which you can see part of to the left.

Change Color or DeleteI have chosen Pallette #1, which is a simple three color pallette. To change any of the colors, right click on the small squares that I have numbered 1, 2, and 3 above and choose "Change Color". Or you can delete the box if you want less colors.

When you choose "Change Colors" a pallette box will open where you can choose your colors. If you want to choose from more than just the ones shown, click on "Define Custom Colors" to open up a color picker.

To add colors to the wheel, just click anywhere on the wheel to create a box. Then right click and change color.

When you have the color combination you like, click the "Add" button to add your pallette to the Pallettes listed. Click "OK" to use your own gradient!
