| Erasing Images in PhotoImpact 4.2 | |

One thing that I really missed from Paint Shop Pro was the "eraser" tool, where you could "erase" a part of an image to help clean it up, or to let a lower layer show through. PhotoImpact has an "eraser", but it only works on paint you have applied, not on a base image. But, I have figured out a very simple way to duplicate PSP's eraser tool.
1. Open the image you want to erase. If the image you want to erase from is not already an object, select all (CTRL-A) and right click and choose "Convert To Object." Using your pick tool, click on the object and drag it off the edge of the current image to open it as a new image.
2. Choose your paint tool and select a color that is not in your image. I like to use a really obnoxious bright color :-). Make sure the soft edge is set to 0. On your image, paint the areas you want erased with your really obnoxious color. I have chosen to remove the leaves from this image from PhotoImpact 4.2's object library.

I like to paint most of the image first, then clean up the final stages after the next step. You can just paint everything you want transparent first if you prefer.
3. Now, right click on your object and select properties. The Properties box should come up. Click on the "Transparent Color" box and right click on the color to select your transparent color.

4. Click "OK" and your image should now be "erased" where you painted. Clean up anything you need to. You should now have your erased image!
