Interest/Experience with graphics software: On The Job
Operating System: Windows 9x

"She Watches" was created using Adobe Photoshop. The eyes are
from a photo, and the rest of the image is freehanded or worked
with filters. This was part of a group of images I created when
I was learning to work with layers in Photoshop.
What
graphics software do you use on a regular basis?
Adobe Photoshop. Occasionally, Paint Shop Pro or Ulead PhotoImpact.
A bunch of freeware junk to generate seamless tiles or patterns,
and to organize my out of control collection of fonts.
What
was the first graphics program you learned?
Ulead PhotoImpact
What
is your all-time favorite graphics program and why?
Photoshop, because it has an endless number of features, and
because so many others use it---there's always somewhere to
go to find out how to get an effect, and I never want for wacky
filters.
How
long have you been working with graphics software?
5 years
How
do you use graphics software in your day-to-day activities?
I post a lot of printable graphics for dollhouse makers on my
site, so I'm always either creating original graphics or scanning
vintage papers and manipulating them.
What
is your best graphics tip or piece of advice?
Watch other people work with your software if you get a chance.
I'm always watching our graphics team at the office, and I've
learned a ton of neat tricks from them. Everybody has their
own shortcuts and favorite toys!
Where
do you get your inspiration?
Hmm. Photos, mostly. A lot of the graphics I create when I'm
working on new techniques are based on photographs, or begin
with a photo.
"Szherezade" is a combination of two photos (the girl and the
Taj Mahal), an original graphic (the music) and some PhotoShop
filters worked in layers. This is part of a series of women
I've been working on for a while.
"Cleopatra" is another in the same series of women, worked in
layers in PhotoShop.
"In Orbit" was an exercise in creating spheres and reflection.
"Sunflower", with apoligies to Vincent Van Gogh. I wanted to
work a photo into the style a painting, and this seemed like
an obvious choice, since it's my mom's favorite work of art,
and I've been looking at copies of it forever.
