Part 1: Making the CD
Software Used: CorelXARA 2
1.) Open a new image in Xara. Right click on the page and enable Snap to Grid.
2.)
Pick the Ellipse Tool
and draw a circle approximately 5 inches. Use the CTRL Key to
constrain the ellipse tool to a circle. You can adjust the size
in the Selector Info Toolbar.
3.) With the circle selected, change the fill color to 10% black and the line color to 40% black. (Clicking with the left mouse button on the color palette changes the fill color, and clicking with the right mouse button changes the line color. You can see the name of the color by holding your cursor over the color well on the palette.)
4.) Draw another circle sized to 1/2 inch.
5.)
Select both circles, go to Arrange, Alignment. Click once in
the center of the Object Alignment dialog to align the objects
centrally both horizontally and vertically (see example). Click
apply, then close.
6.) With both objects still selected, go to arrange, combine shapes, slice (cut) shapes.
The small circle cuts a hole in the big circle and takes on the same fill and line color. Instead of deleting the inside circle, we're going to reuse it.
7.) Select the small circle and type Ctrl-F, to bring it to the front. Change the fill to "no fill" and leave the line as is. Now hold the shift key down while dragging a corner handle, and size the circle to 1 1/2 inches. The shift key keeps the center of the circle in the same position so it should still be centered on the larger circle.
8.)
Type Ctrl-K to clone the circle, then in the selector info toolbar,
reduce the size of the cloned circle to 1.38 inches.
9.) Now select the large circle, duplicate it (Ctrl-D) and drag it off to the side. Reduce the size of the circle slightly (I used 4.88 inches). Duplicate another circle, and size it to approximately 1.62 inches.
10.) Select both circles, center align them, and then slice the shapes (just like you did in steps 5 and 6). Discard the inside circle so you are left with a donut shape. Change the fill to white with no outline. Center align it over the other circles.
11.)
Select the white circle, Ctrl-K to clone it. This places a duplicate
directly over the original so you won't notice any change. Now
with the clone selected, select the fill tool.
In the selector
info bar, choose conical for the fill type.
A curved
arrow will appear around the shape. Click and drag the red color
well from the palette to one end of the arrow, and let go when
a tiny arrow and a square appears next to the arrow icon.
Drag the
color violet to the other end of the fill arrow. In the selector
infobar, change the fill effect to Alt Rainbow.
12.)
Now select the rainbow filled shape, choose the
transparency tool, and drag the transparency slider to about
70% to 80%.
13.) We now have our CD, now we just need to make it into an animation. You might want to save you work before moving on the next step.
