Summer Cottage Tube Painting in Paint Shop Pro
Paint Shop Pro Tutorial by Arizona Kate

(If you arrived on this page from a search, you can start the tutorial on page one.)

Background Trees

Create a new raster layer and name it Far Trees.

Select the Summer Trees tube. Change scale to 60.
Click along the horizon a number of times to place a row of trees in background. Try NOT to have them all in a straight line like little soldiers...vary the height. Don't worry about aligning the bottom of the trunks...they'll get covered!

On the Layer Palette, drag the layer button for Far Trees so it is positioned between the Lawn layer and the background gradient layer.

Use the Mover Tool to adjust the position of the background trees so only about 2/3 shows above the horizon and most of the tree trunks are hidden ...refer to screenshot below.

Reducing the size of an object and the intensity of color will make the trees appear further away. We've already reduced the size of the trees, next we lower the color saturation and intensity. Select from the menu... Adjust>Hue & Saturation
select Hue/Saturation/Lightness.
Reduce the saturation to -50 by dragging the slider down. Lighten the colors by dragging the slider up around 20. Click OK.

Trees Next to House

Create a new layer and name it Trees (this layer will be on top of Lawn layer).

Select the Summer Trees tube. Change scale to 100.
Place 1 tree on the left and 2 or 3 trees on the right. The trees on right will be behind the house and will make a nice frame for the house.

If you want to be choosy about what shape you want to use in this step (which tree tube), just quickly place a number of trees anywhere ...spaced apart from each other..... and then use the Selection Tool to cut/remove the ones you don't want to use and then position the trees you want to keep.
