Guide Review - 'Photoshop Elements 3: 50 Ways to Create Cool Pictures' by Dave Huss

With straightforward language, David Huss demonstrates practical techniques for improving your photos with Photoshop Elements. His casual writing style and sense of humor make you want to keep reading and learning.

Judging by the title of this book, I was expecting it to be mainly special effects techniques (and there are several of those), but I was pleasantly surprised to also find lots of good advice for fixing common problems, simple ways to give dull photos an extra pop, and even hints for taking better pictures with your camera. The step-by-step instructions are accompanied by large, full-color illustrations and the images used in the projects are available for download for those who wish to work through the projects themselves.

If you're a brand new user of Photoshop Elements, you may need to keep the User Guide handy while working through the book. It does not rehash the very basics of working in Elements, so those somewhat familiar with the software can go right to work on making their pictures better using the techniques in the book.

"Photoshop Elements 3: 50 Ways to Create Cool Pictures" is entertaining, engaging, and covers a useful variety of digital photo techniques.
