Guide Review - StudioLine Photo 2

StudioLine Photo 2 is quite different from most digital photo organizers. The difference is immediately obvious in the non-standard interface, but the departure goes deeper than that. I got off to a bad start with the software when I discovered it had duplicated all my digital photos. (Be sure to read the first section of the manual before installing the software if you want to avoid my mistake!) Once I got beyond that problem, however, I began to see the virtues of this software despite the odd interface. For starters, this version is noticeably faster than the prior version.

StudioLine lets you organize your pictures into folders which are not tied to the folders on your hard disk. It's not too hard to learn with on-screen hints to walk you through the features at every stage, introductory tutorials, and a printed manual in the boxed version. It offers a number of ways to link information to your pictures such as keywords, captions, and notes. It also supports EXIF and IPTC data. All the information you add can be copied to other images easily by drag & drop. StudioLine also offers a number of "always-editable" correction filters and effects which can also be applied/copied in batch mode. It even allows you to open each layer in a Photoshop PSD file as a separate image. You can share your images by printing them, emailing them, or by publishing them as stylish Web galleries. StudioLine also includes integrated CD & DVD burning for backups and archival.
