There's no simple way to generate a list of files within a directory under Windows without using DOS commands. However, if you own the popular ACDSee image viewing software, you can easily generate a list of files.
Note: This tutorial is for older versions of ACDSee. I also have instructions for generating a file list using ACDSee 9 or higher.
Difficulty: Easy
Time Required: 2 minutes
Here's How:
- Open ACDSee.
- Under the View menu, set the view to either List or Details.
- If the folder tree is not visible, go to View > Controls > Folder Tree.
- In the folder tree, navigate to the folder for which you want a file list.
- Go to the Tools menu and choose Generate File List (or press Ctrl-G on your keyboard).
- The file list will open in your default text editor.
Tips:
- Set the view to List to get a listing of file names only.
- Setting the view to Details will include all the information that is selected under the View > Show Columns submenu (size, type, date, image properties, and description).
- You can copy and paste the file list into another program.
